Thankful for Mini Habits (the book)

I stumbled across a book a few weeks ago. I don't even remember now where I found it. The is called Mini Habits: Smaller Habits, Bigger Results. It is about setting stupidly small goals and how just getting started will often spur a person on to do more and thus achieve more.

This premise is truly fascinating. Start small and be content with achieving that small goal, but be encouraged when that small action is the catalyst for further action. I've read several books about habits. It's intriguing how the mind works. Mini Habits spends a little time going into the mechanics of memory. Because it lays that groundwork, starting small makes a lot of sense. So that is the impetus to kick-start the blog.

Let's see where this road leads.

Summer Fruit

One of the best things about summer has got to be the availability of fresh fruit. I'm even willing to do the unthinkable and pay extra for fruit that has already been cut up and placed in a flimsy plastic bowl at the grocery store. No muss, no fuss. Just fresh fruit ready to consume. How awesome is that?!

Since a new start on weight watchers is inevitable in the summer, I find that the fruit bowl becomes even more appealing because of it's Points Plus™™™® value, which just happens to be zero. If the fruit is at it's perfect state of ripeness you don't even have to bother with any other dips or accouterments. Surely, this is "grab and go" at its best.

Smoothies are a great way to get all that fruit. With a little yogurt, juice and ice all that lusciousness can really be portable. Need help? Check out this tutorial - Make-a-Fruit-and-Yogurt-Smoothie.

Summer is here (well, close enough), so enjoy!

Prescription for a Cold Remedy

I was feeling kind of punky yesterday. I could tell there was a cold brewing in my body. Too much Halloween candy had ravaged my immune system and left me vulnerable. I knew that if I didn't take action quickly I was going to be in for some sniffles, at best, and a full blown sinus infection at worse. So I got plenty of rest, took some vitamin C and Echinacea and soothed my weary soul with a Starbucks chai latte. Today is a new day and I'm feeling much, much better. I do believe I've fended it off that evil cold. Ha, ha, ha.

P.S. ... I'm sure that a little prayer from some friends helped also.

Cool Phone Apps

I'm thankful for phone that has really cool apps like a Blogger app. It still truly amazes me that phone can do so many things (but apparently capitalizing at the beginning of a sentence isn't one of them). Anyway... to think that I can say words they can turn into her paper pretty darn amazing. it's kind of funny how I take for granted all these little improvements in my life. I hope that in the coming days I can utilize this newfound tool to get my blog back on track.

Thankfulness is an Antidote for Negative Thoughts

Thankfulness causes me to acknowledge that the source of all I have isn't me, but the Lord God. I don’t really need to occupy myself with pride or guilt.

Sometimes I’m overwhelmed with the sheer volume of all that I could be doing. When that happens I find that my focus is on that stuff and not on the fact that having all those options is a blessing.

Because I have so much, I want to make the best possible use of all of it. And down into the rabbit hole I go on a quest for better productivity. Sure, being a good steward is a wonderful goal, but when it is to the exclusion of enjoying life and appreciating the moment, then something has gone awry. When I have the realization that becoming more productive has become more important than becoming godly, then I know it’s time to reign it in. That’s usually when I endeavor to refocus on all the blessings I have/experience/share with others. It’s at these times that I remember Romans 11:36 – Everything comes from the Lord.

A Little Yo-Yo Tree

This little yo-yo tree is just one of oh-so-many projects I've been working on lately. Unfortunately, I haven't done a good job of documenting my projects. But that's not all bad, since I haven't actually finished many of them. So...that means lots of future posts. That's all for now.

So Much to Be Thankful For

Yes, I did just finish that title with a preposition. I'm feeling rebellious today. Watch out world! I'm sensing the need for a vacation. Life has gotten a bit crazy lately. There is just so much to do, so much fun to have. Once again I'm feeling overwhelmed. Even when life is crazy, there is so much to be thankful for in my life. Today I get to go walking with a friend, have lunch with some other friends and then I have an afternoon to myself. I will probably do my favorite thing - sew. What's not to be thankful for? Oops...another sentence ending with a preposition. The world didn't come to an end, so it's all good.
